Todd Leech, Drowning and Rejuvenation

For those of you who don't know, this is an image from a former grads thesis show. Todd Leech who's work is pictured, recently sent me an email saying that he was featured in a youtube video due to his show at NCECA!! It seems to me that this youtube clip may be part of a longer documentary on CF and also Todd's profound approach to his illness and artwork. Anyway check it out on youtube, ill try to link it here but if it doesn't work then just search todd leech in youtube. Congrats Todd!!!, and keep up the good work

These are some interesting pieces i saw while in NYC!! The painting is on stainless steel and the slipcast piece moves via the gears behind it. Pretty creepy to see them actually moving, they rocked back and forth slowly and the hands moved and touched the face as well. The other piece is made from recycled paper and is all folded and tied together to create the depth and variation. All done by Korean artist's!!!! Show is located at : LaVenue: The Terminal Stores 608 West 28th st. ( Chelsea) between 11th and 12th

Test in progress!!!( Fold Formation Mountain)

Monday, February 8, 2010

These pieces are also studies for larger sculptures that will be included in my thesis exhibition!! Attempting to show earthen processes (tectonic action/ fault mountain formation) via dry clay layering. The larger piece will be contained in some type of wood structure with long plexiglass windows for viewing. Also, here are a few pics of our gallery space in the process of being cleaned and worked on!!!

This is a preliminary study for a larger installation that i mentioned earlier. Lots of decisions still to be made about the layout and structure of the piece, but i plan on re-doing this multiple times and trying various combinations. Biggest problem so far is deciding how to get the wire mesh tight enough sustain the weight and pressure? Any suggestions?

Thesis preparation is underway!!! Gathering materials and planning a large raw clay piece for the gallery space. Made the first 300 pounds of clay for the piece, and will probably need about 400 more. I plan to create a site-specific sculpture for the show that will surround the viewers in the space and hopefully give a sense of what it is that intrigues me in regards to clay as a earthen material? It's a bit hard to envision the piece now but hopefully after some minimal testing it will come to fruition in the near future!! Pictures to come!!!
